My Grand Design
The design brief was for an airy and stylish home for seven, that would make a bold statement, yet blend in with it's surroundings.
The style is firmly redolent of the 20's and 30's, and features some particularly fine salvaged stained glass of the period, allied to some rather revolutionary construction methods, again where possible using salvaged or "waste" materials.
The structure is essentially timber, with insulated roof (using recycled solar-panel packing), and a revolutionary waterproofing layer based around paint and canvas, using techniques perfected with classic boats, and 1920's caravans
The seven inhabitants are now comfortably esconced, and they are already proving productive!
An exciting feature is the removable terrace, and a covered stairway from the first floor, affording as it does a splendidly airy, dry, and well-ventilated
studio ambience.
There is a built-in food bar on the first floor, and facilities for drinks - with spacious off-floor sleeping spaces for the night time, with ample private sitting area.
Thanks to use of our "in house" design and build facilities, it was on time, under budget, and there were no planning or financing issues
